Last week the Guatemalan human rights community remembered and celebrated Monsignor Gerardi’s life and work. He was brutally murdered 20 years ago, after publishing the report “Guatemala Nunca Más“, which outlines the military atrocities committed during Guatemala’s Civil War and the effect the war has had on Guatemala’s indigenous population. Monsignor Gerardi’s assailant was never brought to justice. For everyone interested in learning more about this unsolved case, consider reading “The art of political murder” by Francisco Goldman.
“Mientras no se sepa la verdad, las heridas del pasado continuarán abiertas y sin cicatrizar” (If we don’t know the truth, the wounds of the past will remain open and unhealed)
If you want to learn more about the human rights movement while exploring the beautiful country of Guatemala, please consider joining us for one of our tours this summer and fall.
